Detektif Conan 68, Tokkyu!! 19, Red Haired Snow White 5 (Elex Media manga out nau~)

Street date: 7 August 2012—Tuesday—not the usual Wednesday, in anticipation of the upcoming Idul Fitri holiday

Imagine a Sherlock Holmes, aged just 17, living in the late 1990s. Imagine further that he resembles a six y.o. boy. When the British style of Conan Doyle combines with that of Japan's Edogawa Rampo, they give birth to...

Detektif Conan 68 (Elex Media)

Meitantei Conan © Aoyama Gosho
Shogakukan [Serialized in Shonen Sunday]
Published in Indonesia as Detektif Conan by Elex Media

Edogawa Conan, the smartest detective of his generation!

Yeah, yeah, Conan fans prolly don't need that intro nor the poisoning victim of the mysterious Black Organization, Kudo Shinichi is forced to return to primary school and, while ensuring the secret of his new identity remains intact, investigates and solves unexplained murders that Imma likewise borrow from Kana's Détective Conan, Tome 68 thematic. I just thought I'd stretch the suspense with NikBabble™ :D

Neway, what is Conan up to nau~? More specifically Suzuki Jirokichi? Well, the glory hound recruits the Shounen Tantei-dan to foil Kid the Thief. Who's going to win this Fight of the Century?

But before the mother of all battles goes down, Detective Shiratori and Kobayashi get past their love probs. Also, check out what happens during Bird Day and Birthday (Kisaki Eri's, that is, and the Japanese Tori-no-ichi or Rooster Festival).

Detektif Conan volume 68 compiles chapters 708 to 718: Sakura in Full Bloom · Kisaki Eri's Misfortune · Raise and then Lower? · The Best Birthday · Azure Dragon (Seiryū) · Vermilion Bird (Suzaku) · White Tiger (Byakko) · Black Tortoise (Genbu) · Rooster Festival · Monkey & Nine · Naivety [*NOT Elex/Shonen Star chapter titles]

If you want Detektif Conan chapters past 718 and can't wait for Elex' volume 69 onwards, check out back issues till the latest Shonen Star. Issue 14/2012 also releases on this date. (More on ShoStar 14 in a bit.)

Seventy-six Meitantei Conan tankou—reaching as far as chapter 806—have been published in Japan as of June 2012. Volume 77 streets on 18 September, and that total volume tally is nowhere near stopping its climb.

Now let's talk penultimates.

Tokkyu!! vol 19 of 20
by Komori Yoichi & Kubo Mitsuro

Half a year's rain pours in just four hours. Because of the record-breaking deluge, the levee gives way and muddy floodwaters surge into the city. Rescue workers race to save the residents, but...

One elderly woman is left behind...

Tokkyu!! to the rescue!

And after a wait of over a year—

Red Haired Snow White vol 5 (of 7+)
By Akizuki (also Akiduki) Sorata

Shirayuki is summoned to Tanbarun by Prince Raji. The Crown Prince apparently wants to improve Shirayuki's image of him. Given her history with the Idiot Prince—which led to Shirayuki's exodus to neighboring kingdom Clarines in the first place—Shirayuki frets, and if she's anxious, what more Clarines' "Take my hand" Prince Zen.

But Raji might be the least of Zenyuki's problems, because word comes of someone targeting the Red Haired Snow White.

Red Haired Snow White volume 5 covers chapters 18 through 21, and caps off with a side story starring Obi and Ryu. My report card for this volume: 8.5 of 10♡ (A). (Zen's brother Prince Izama remains wub, btw. xD)

Seven Akagami no Shirayuki Hime volumes have been released in Japan as of March 2012. The much-awaited volume 8 is skedded for 5 September.

Mangazines: Shonen Star Issue 14/2012
London 2012 has got nothing to do with this, but's it's still an Olympian clash: Oz takes on the Red Horseman in Arai Takahiro's AR∀GO. Also deserving a lowlight is the premiere of Fukuchi Tsubasa's Anagle Mole, featuring Stranger in a Strange School Luchiru. [Continued...]

Tokkyu!! vol 17 of 20
By Komori Yoichi & Kubo Mitsuro

No one doubts that Captain Sanada has no peer when it comes to rescues, but during a friendly match, his subordinates discover that he dons counterweights, not to improve stability (though there is prolly that) but to reduce his power!?

Sanada-sama saikyou! Elex also hypes the SAR rescues — equally exciting, some of them even taking place in Indonesian waters. Me? One word (or fruit, as the case may be): Salak. As for why... :D (Sankyuu~ @regular_ARI-san :D)

New Elex titles
Look forward to the next Doraemon Movie manga, Nobita dan Angin Ajaib (Eiga Doraemon: Nobita to fushigi kazetsukai or Nobita and the Wind Wizard) and the double launch of My Dear Princess AKA Chicken Cutlet Princess, the shoujo manhua from Lin Min-xuan whom Elex sez won the Golden Comic Awards' Best Girl Cartoon Award and Best Annual Comic Award in 2010.
